About Earth Eden Sanctuary

Earth Eden Sanctuary is a 19 acre oasis of diversity restored from a heavy history of neglect, over-farming and use as a dumping ground. Back in 2002 when my small son and I first encountered the forsaken property, derelict vehicles, farm equipment and ramshackle structures covered the landscape. As we scrambled over the knee-high mounds of bottles, cans, trash and tires covering the forest floor, my son looked up and asked, “Why are we here?” As if to pause my own doubt, a spindly Jack-in-the-Pulpit that had struggled up through debris ahead of us waved its head in encouragement. We followed a path further into the woods where the ground began to clear and descend into a verdant ravine. At its base a shimmering creek wound around stately hemlocks bearing peaceful witness to nature’s remains. Then I understood.
“This is why we’re here.”
12 years of labor and love have transformed a scene of waste and neglect into a piece of paradise. The care and energy invested in clearing away tons of debris, restoring soil health, planting hundreds of trees, shrubs and beautiful organic gardens for wildlife and humans, the consideration, planning and effort applied to constructing the small house, barn and passive solar greenhouse from reclaimed and sustainable materials restored not only the landscape, but also my own faith. It has been a joy and privilege to witness the resilience and abundance of life thriving again in this little nature refuge, this Earth Eden, and now this example of hope and possibilities is ready to share, teach and inspire others.
